Alison Ritter was born in the UK and holds a B.A. Hons. Degree in German and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and is thus a qualified teacher.
After moving to Germany after her studies she taught English as a foreign language in German schools, and Business English in significant companies (e.g. at Bertelsmann to executive level).
In 1994 she co-founded VIA-Verlag with her partner and also the lighting designers’ association ELDA, later known as PLDA, of which she was Secretary General for 15 years.
Alison is Head of Educational Concepts and Programmes at VIA-Verlag and has been translating lighting (technical and design) for 25 years. She also acts as a Steering Committee Member of the Professional Lighting Design Convention, PLDC.
Alison plays an active role in establishing the architectural lighting design profession and is involved in efforts to gain recognition for the profession at EU level.
