ACE manifesto on
the professionalism of the lighting designer
The French lighting designers’ association, ACE (Association Concepteurs lumière et Éclairagistes) have put together a manifesto outlining the intentions, motives and views of their members as practising professional lighting designers.
As lighting designers with the expertise required to design with artificial and natural light, they have a series of goals. Light at night should be designed to reinstate twilight and darkness as positive times of the day, not only to preserve resources and save energy but also to meet the needs and purposes of those using interior and exterior spaces after dark. Designers must respect geographical and cultural differences and guarantee the projects they design are of high-quality and for the well-being of people of all ages and backgrounds.
ACE sees lighting design expertise as involving the use of renewable energies and encouraging the lighting industry to contribute towards reducing CO2 emissions. The intention is to create and develop a network of knowledge to share information and experience to serve the cause. Building on this laboratory of ideas, ACE commits to spreading the word among its members and meeting the series of deadlines they have set themselves for 2020, 2025, 2030 and 2050.
